Both Deceased Students Named in the Ivy League School Attack as Law Enforcement Press On With Search for Killer.

The pair of scholars who lost their lives in Saturday’s violent attack at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – as a manhunt for their shooter persisted following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s branch of the campus GOP group, according to the organization. Karoline Leavitt also expressed sympathies online, saying in part: “There are no words. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, particularly her mother and father.”

The Second Victim

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the prestigious university, according to relatives.

Umurzokov’s identity was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sibling Samira said in a memorial statement.

An additional nine individuals were injured in Saturday’s attack in the school of engineering of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Officials stated by the end of Sunday that a man aged 24 detained in a search at a hotel about 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was being released.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a statement. “Our profound condolences go out to Mr Umurzokov’s family, companions, and schoolmates and mourn the loss of his potential.”

The fatal shooting at Brown, the country's seventh most historic college with about 7,300 undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, took place amid one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in the current year, according to data.
