Manchester United Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
