Arsenal's manager feels assured that his team can continue to cope with injury setbacks after disclosing that star striker Kai Havertz will not return for a few more weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

The Germany international has been out since the summer following knee surgery. Hoped to return at the start of this month, the manager stated the player faced a hurdle when increasing his rehabilitation and failed to reach “the next phase.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a squad that is far more dependable and has increased versatility,” stated the manager.

Tactical Decisions for Midweek Fixture

This development creates a tactical puzzle for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between persisting with Mikel Merino, who got a goal as a makeshift striker on Sunday, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who came back from a muscle injury off the bench. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains in contention post-recovery.

Defensive Concerns Remain

Additional concerns affect defender William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who sat out the Stamford Bridge game. Therefore, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to continue in the backline for the league leaders.

Arteta feels the £250m spend on new players ahead of this season has placed the club in a more robust situation to handle such absences.

When asked if increased squad depth was helping their title quest, his response was positive. “Yes, since the current term has seen more issues in certain positions, and now the problems with the defence,” he noted.

“We learned from the past that we need to utilize players in various roles, and they must be capable to adapt to new tasks if we want to compete at the highest level. And the case of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Speaking about the delay highlighted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave further detail. “He was doing everything. He was unable to progress to the required step and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

The manager conveyed his keenness to welcome him back. “The team is keen to have him. Honestly, Havertz is someone that, personally, I value highly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his character, his personality. I see him suffer while sidelined.”
