New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.
Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their latest talk.
“That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”
It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.
“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that reassures me, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”
New York police shared video stills Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.
The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning near Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a child.
“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”
Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.
He signed with New York as a free agent in March and was projected as a key part of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on early August and was carted from the field.
Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.
“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”
Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He later played for Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
