Orbital Pictures Show Iranian Navy and Nuclear Facilities Targeted by Joint US and Israeli Attacks.

A wave of American and Israeli airstrikes has allegedly eliminated or harmed a minimum of 11 Iranian naval vessels since Saturday, recently obtained aerial photos show, with rocket sites and enrichment plants also being targeted.

Pictures of the southern Konarak naval base and the Bandar Abbas port facility, which is located on the strategic Hormuz Strait and houses the main command of the Iranian navy, depict plumes of smoke rising from multiple warships on the start of the week.

Maritime Forces Sustained Substantial Losses

Included in the ships sunk was the IRINS Makran, the country's biggest warship which had served as a drone carrier. Satellite images displayed thick smoke emanating from the vessel which had been stationed at the Bandar Abbas naval base.

Analytical evaluations state that at least five ships at the port were "damaged or eliminated". Photos of the southern end of the port reveal smoke emanating from the IRINS Makran, while another pair of vessels appear to be damaged, with one visibly ablaze.

At Konarak, images show multiple damaged vessels, with intelligence reports identifying damage to six vessels. Photos from Monday also indicate that multiple buildings at the installation have been destroyed.

"For many years the Iran's leadership has harassed international shipping," a senior US military official said. "Today, there is not a single vessel from Iran at sea in the Arabian Gulf, Hormuz Strait or Gulf of Oman, and we will not stop."

Some ships reportedly sunk may have been concealed in satellite images by weather conditions or battle damage, or hit in open waters, and have not been conclusively proven. Separate reports stated that one Iranian ship was going down off the coast of Sri Lankan territorial waters, leading to a search and rescue mission.

Missile Sites and Nuclear Facilities Attacked

Eliminating Iran's rocket sites and the prevention of nuclear weapons development were listed as further aims of the air campaign. Satellite images also revealed impacts against the southern Khorgu and northwestern Tabriz facilities, and at the Konarak air base, where rocket warehouses and fortifications were hit.

Over at the Choqa Balk-e drone UAV facility west of the city of Kermanshah, widespread destruction was seen to storage buildings, underground facilities and unmanned aircraft systems.

Damage was also observed at a surveillance station at the Zahedan military airport in eastern parts of the country, close to the frontier with neighboring nations.

Of particular note, the new round of attacks have apparently targeted installations at the Natanz complex – considered at the heart of Iran's nuclear programme. An international watchdog stated that the affected structures were used for access to the site's underground nuclear plant and that "no radiological consequence" was expected.

Broader Consequences and Analysis

Defense experts stated that the offensive appeared to have "greatly reduced" the Iranian navy's capacity to carry out standard operations using its biggest warships. But, it was stressed that Tehran retains the ability to launch unconventional attacks at sea through the use of drones, mini-submarines and its so-called "clandestine network" of oil ships.

The total extent of the damage caused to Iran's defense facilities remains unclear, with strikes said to be continuing. Imagery also shows extensive destruction to the command center of the Iran's Revolutionary Guards in the city of Tehran.

A large number of public facilities also are reported to have been struck in the capital and across the country after the fighting escalated. Reports of deaths from ground sources state that many hundreds of civilians may have been lost their lives in the bombardment.

As the situation develops, monitoring of space-based data will persist to assess the evolving scope of damage.
