Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for concerns to be asked about his position after a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from above,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
Slot lamented recurring failings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period of this nature with results so bad.”
Jones finished, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to where it needs to be, prove again the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
