The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part season written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The previous season concluded in 2021 with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.
However, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans watch the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama launched in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful television series of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Lennie James.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.
The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
