The former personal attorney for Donald Trump has resigned as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This comes after a legal ruling that invalidated her right to occupy the role.
Acceptance of Resignation
The head of the Justice Department, Pam Bondi, announced Habba's resignation on the start of the week. In a statement that the judicial decision made it unworkable for her to effectively run her office.
"But do not mistake compliance for surrender," she wrote. "My fight will now extend throughout the nation."

Habba's exit was triggered by a federal appellate panel determined that she had been serving in violation of the law as the federal prosecutor. This judgment is could influence scores of criminal cases in the Garden State.
The judicial panel said that a interim role that bypassed confirmation by the US Senate breached the federal law governing appointments.

The Attorney General added that Habba will continue working within the DOJ as a senior adviser. She will pursue additional appeals of the court's action, in the hope of achieving a different outcome.
Writing online, she argued that judges "cannot be permitted to override the executive's selection of attorneys entrusted with carrying out the executive branch's core responsibility of enforcing the law."
